All the puppies were adopted and taken home on Christmas Eve... Except Poppy who was reserved for a lady in Alaska to pick up on Jan 20th. On Dec 20th Poppy got bit by a spider and her whole paw got infected to where she wouldn't eat or drink on her own. I would feed her every 1&1/2 hours as much as she would take and Karo syrup to keep her sugars up. We took her to a vet on the 21st and he said to just keep watching her temp and feeding her. Then on the 24th she got worse again after her paw popped open and temp went down. So we took her to the ER and they got her an antibiotic and pain med. She lost her toe nail that night and their not sure it will grow back.
All the other puppies were so excited to go home with their new families. And all of the families were so excited for their new family member. Now we just have to decide if we are going to do this again or not. It was a fun adventure but so much work to raise them in the house. At 4 weeks I started taking them outside to go potty every 1&1/2 hours just like newborn but LOTS of them. Love those puppies hope they make good adult dogs someday. This is right before they all started going home... We will miss these cuties!

Puppies 5 weeks old!
So the puppies are growing so fast. I knew they would and I guess I am just thankful they are mini's so they are half the size they would have been. They all just received their 2nd deworming and shots will be this weekend. Matia is so not excited for that day. They are all very active and running although they fall on their face a lot. Poppy has learned how to climb out of the pen so we are going to have to fix that. She is a little smartie pants.

Puppies 4 weeks old
The puppies had another big week as their ears opened and they were able to hear themselves bark and the sounds of the house. They are still waking up during the night for potty breaks and feedings. This week I took them to the vet (which was quite the chore) and they all are doing FABULOUS! All very healthy with no concerns at all. We are keeping one lucky puppy and busy trying to find adoptive families for all the others. We have 3 families committed and excited to add our sweet puppy to their families on Christmas. So 5 more homes we hope to find. We also took the puppies out into the snow for the first time. They were not to sure what to think about that but they all got used to it and started to explore like they do. They also had their second bath, trying to get used to that whole idea as well.

Puppies 3 weeks and Winter riding begins
Dec 4th - This week has been a busy week for the puppies. They started eating soaked puppy food and going potty on the newspaper and all of their eyes are opened. So they are seeing the world in a whole new experience! They are still very stumbly as they walk but they are getting better everyday. They are starting to show some personality but still sleep a lot. Love our puppies.
This week we also started winter riding lessons. It has been a super cold week so gloves, hats, thermals and jackets were all very necessary for us to have a good time. We have 12 students enrolled for winter lessons with 5 brand new riders. This should be a good session.

Puppies 2 weeks
Nov 27 - So the puppies are now 2 weeks old and it is amazing how fast they grow. They have been so fun to watch squirm around and how fast they can now move when they smell mommy. Yesterday their eyes have started opening. Tulip (the pink girl) is now starting to walk but then she lands on her face. Both of her eyes are slowly opening. Turquois has one open eye and one closed eye and is also starting to walk. We just moved them into the kitchen area so that we could give them a little more room for when they are walking around. This is also giving them a potty/play area. This week we expect them to change quite a bit it should be fun to watch!

Fall Riding Lessons are Finished Winter begins Dec 4th
I just wanted to thank everyone that was involved in the fall lessons. I hope everyone had a great time during lessons and that you all felt like your riding abilities increased during this 12 week session. I know Maximus might have been a little difficult for his riders to adjust to him and I appreciate your patience with him while he adapted to our ranch. Due to popular demand, we have decided to start a winter lessons session starting Dec 3rd. There were just some students who couldn't bare the thought of not riding for 3 months. Even though it will be cold hopefully we can enjoy it. I will be the instructor for this session since we have not filled up the 4 classes needed to hire Kailey. But hopefully it will still be fun! Love you all and hope to see you back in the spring!

Puppies are 1 week old!
So the puppies all made it safely to one week old. They are still sleeping a lot but starting to move around a bit more while they are awake. Daisy is such a good mom. She is starting to give them a little more alone time yet keeps a very close eye on them. She has her bed right next to theirs so she can watch them but then gets in their whelping box to feed them when they need it. She is eating a ton and drinking so much to keep all 9 fed.
They have all mostly doubled their weight which is a great sign. I have dewclawed them all and they recovered very quickly. We all love on them and I haven't left them for more then 2 hours without a babysitter. We are all just really excited for the day they open their eyes, and ears so they can see what this world is all about. I am going to start working on a house for them in the mud room with a doggie door to the outside kennel. This will be their next move once they are too big for the whelping box.

Missy Lou - Adoption is Final
Nov 21, 2013 - So this is Missy Lou is a bay quarter horse born in Idaho on May 25, 2005. Her paper name is Taylors Dottie but that just didn't seem to fit her. Missy is a super gentle horse with a lot of get up and go. She is quick and light on her feet. She does not like to be bridled with her halter on. She has not been ridden much the last few months so right now she is strictly a Townsend Family Horse. But one day she might be advanced to a lesson horse.
Missy Lou is kinda funny though, she likes to dig holes in her paddocks and she likes her back end rubbed... I know it sounds silly but if you go in with her and she is comfortable with you she will put her back end to you and push against you until you rub her. CRAZY GIRL. Her and Sally are quickly becoming friends of course Missy Lou is so loveable. We love her already!

The Puppies are Here!!!
So we waited 63 long days wondering if Daisy was going to have any puppies or not. She was getting bigger but not by much and we could feel them moving around in there. So we took guesses at how many we thought she would have and when. Treg and Alysa got the closest to when she would have them. And I got the closest to how many there were at 8. She had 9 puppies!!! We all thought that since this was her first litter she wouldn't have very many but she showed us with 9 all black beautiful babies. She started to have them on Nov 13th at 8:30 and the last one was born at 12:09. We were all there to witness most of it. We all missed the 1st even though Treg and Tia were on puppy watch and were in the same room just playing they didn't notice Daisy had her because she was so quite about it. Then I made them all go to bed at puppy number 7 at 11:15pm.
Why Labradoodles? I grew up on a ranch in Lehi, it was a goat dairy ranch, then a mink ranch, then we had foxes, you name it we had it. But we always had a dog right until the day I moved out onto my own. We had labs, dobermans, german shepards, great danes, muts, whatever we just had lots of dogs and they were great. But when I got our first house I really didn't want all that fur all over. So I started having kids then I didn't want my kids in danger of a dog. I had excuses even though I still loved dogs I just really didn't want one. Until about 5&1/2 years ago Terry's sweet sister Tonia passed away. She was a dear friend of mine and super special sister to Terry who has always loved dogs well she loved all the animals. The week she passed away Terry's other sister Tammie came into town for the funeral and they brought their dog Zorro who was a labradoodle. The kids fell in love with him instantly because he was so sweet, fun, gentle and SMART! The day they went home was the day we adopted our sweet Dash! It was the first time we even considered having a dog but we knew right away we wanted a labradoodle so I got on KSL and just 5 minutes before I looked Dash was posted. We went out right away to visit him and we brought him home. We soon after found out we didn't just bring home a dog like I had growing up. We had brought home the next member to our family. He goes everywhere with us except to basketball (which he doesn't like basketball season) and everyone would always come ask us what breed he was and if they could pet him. Dash has always loved the attention. Even when I was teaching preschool he would wait at the top of the stairs wanting so bad to be invited to come play with the kids. His favorite day of preschool was the day we learned about the letter D (Daisy the dog says ddd) and the day we learned about caring for our pets. I love that he doesn't shed, that he knows my emotions before I do (sometimes that is not good), I love him being my running buddy (he is always in the mood), I love that he cares about us and always wants to please us by doing what we have trained him to do. So yes, Dash is special, he is my boy, my buddy, my shadow that keeps me company when everyone leaves for work and school. That is why we will only have labradoodles from here on out. Of all the dogs I have owned growing up both Dash and Daisy have been the most like a true member of the family.
So back to the puppies, yes they are expensive but I tell you what I have never one day regretted owning our labradoodles. Daisy had 5 girls and 4 boys all black. Some have straight coats some are curly, some are bigger and some are smaller but all black so far. The stud we bred Daisy to is named Gus and he is a miniature standard poodle. He is super smart and sweet and he is only 19lbs so we are hoping their puppies will be about the size of Dash when they are full grown. With both of their dispositions the will be some great dogs and make some families so happy with their new family members. This is Tregs business he decided he wanted to bred Daisy and sell the puppies to earn money for college.
He is asking $1,000 for girls and $900 for boys which is a great price for the medium size F1B labradoodles. The F1B means they are 3/4 poodle and 1/4 lab so there is almost NO shedding at all, easy coat to maintain, and super smart sensitive dogs. We bred them to be just like Dash since he can not have puppies of his own. They will be ready to go home on Christmas Eve with their first set of shots, dewclaws, and vet checks. We are taking reservations now so if you know of anyone looking for a perfect Christmas Surprise please give them our information.

Horse Halloween Party
I just thought you would all be interested in what Robbie, Sally and Holly dressed up for Halloween as. Yes, our horses dressed up for the 4-H Halloween party. Bowdee and Sally went as Grease Lightning and Danny. Sally had her red flashes on the sides and license plate in the back. When it was time to take them off however, the license plate hit her back end and was dangling which scared the crap out of her. She took off running all around the arena like a wild mustang... Oh wait she is a wild mustang silly me. They were cute!
Matia and Robbie took first place in cutest costume as Matia as Mary and Robbie as her little lamb. Yes, they were darling I do have to say myself. Matia was very particular about how everything had to look just right and her perfectionism sure paid off with receiving a trophy.
Treg and Holly took 3rd scariest costume. as they were one big Cowboy Ghost. This was a scary costume to me because I was so afraid of Holly getting startled and running and treg trying to see and hold on under the sheet. But Holly was perfect and oh so sweet. Way to go to all my kids with all their costume ideas! What a fun party thanks to all of those who spent so much time making it fun for everyone.

Prince Charming
So with Matia being in the Goat Milk business we realized we need to breed her goat sometime soon so she will have kids in the spring and we will be able to start milking her. So once again she searched and searched on KSL for a billy she could pay a stud fee to service her Princess Cinderella. There was nothing available but she did find this billy in Lehi for a fair price of $50.00 he is a mini Nubian and 1&1/2 years old. We got there and I simply fell in love with this little guy. He loves people! And he is so stinking cute. Yes he is stinky because he is a billy but wow never thought I would like a billy like this. Welcome to Crazy Creek little guy.
I do have to say while we were there they offered us this DARLING baby donkey for free. He was a rescue with no mom to take care of and the owners were feeling a little over whelmed. He was so cute I would have brought him right home but my husband stopped me with a text that said "HECK NO" I didn't think I could fight him with that one so I told myself maybe next year when the ranch is a little more financially stable we can find something like that. But oh he was cute.

Princess Cinderella
So Matia found this beautiful goat in Brigham City. I wasn't to sure about driving that far but she just seemed right and Matia couldn't stop thinking about her. So Holly (my friend, not the horse) and I took the day to drive up and meet her. Sure enough she was Matia's goat and we brought her home to surprise Matia after school. She was so excited and just couldn't believe her eyes when she looked out the window. Love you Tia girl!

Sally's adoption Sept 15th
Ever since I saw Sally on KSL in March and my dad bought her. I knew she was going to be mine, it was just going to take some time for me to get more financially stable to buy her. Anyway, our preschool house sold today and I was so excited to have the money to pay my dad for Sally. Because now she would be our horse. I love everything about Sally I love how she continually tests her riders to make sure they are paying attention. I love her energy yet her sweet nature. I love how she is so gentle with the small children. I love her wild nature and ability to protect herself from bullies. Yes, I do love Sally and I think all her riders love her as well! Thank you Sally for being such a great addition to our Ranch!

Daisy turns 3
Today Daisy turns 3 years old. Treg was such a great owner, first him and Tia slept on the floor with both her and Dash to help celebrate. Then Matia made him some doggie bones and Treg went all out with the decorations. We do love our Daisy she is such a sweet loving compassionate dog. Treg has this idea that he wants to breed her to make money to save up for college. So we decided we would give it a try. She is now in heat and we found the perfect stud for her. His name is Gus and he is a miniature standard poodle who is so well behaved. So dogs are pregnant for 63 days we will be counting the days to see if she gives us a litter. Good luck Daisy!

Cocoa Transfer
So I remember growing up on a ranch there were some hard things about ranching. It was hard to do the chores everyday twice a day no matter how sick you were or busy or how cold it was outside. I was hard to see our animals get sick or hurt and I remember always worrying about them. But the hardest thing of ranching was when an animal that we really really loved got sick and we were not able to help them before they passed on. That always broke my heart, and they always have stayed with me. In many ways that is the biggest reason I have not got into ranching before this time in my life.
So on Sept. 7th, I was doing chores and tied up the baby goats to eat down some weeds. But Cocoa has always been my buddy and she was doing chores with me. Well she would run off for a little then come check back with me and continue this process for a few hours while I was working. I wasn't sure where she was going I just assumed she was over with the babies making sure they were ok. When it was time to put them away they had all ate way to much but they always seem to walk it off and their bellies go down by morning. When I went to walk Cocoa into her pen she laid down, I thought she just was having to much fun being out and insisted on her going back to the pen. Tia went to feed her and milk her that night and came back in to say something was not right with Cocoa she had no milk and wasn't eating. I just thought well that's cuz she ate so much earlier today she will be fine. Well we woke up went to soccer games and came back to tend to Cocoa when I realized I had waited to long to help her and she was not in a good position. I rushed to google Bloating to find out what I could do, called the vet (they were all out), then called mom, dad and Kami to help me. They all came over and we did what we could but nothing worked and we lost our dear Cocoa. Yes, it broke my heart and I cried and cried and cried. When Tia got home she did the same. After a couple of good hours of crying Matia came in to talk to me about it and said "Mom I knew she was going to die this morning so I told her good bye and I know she left us so she could go be with Aunt Tonia." she told me it wasn't my fault and that it was just her time to go live on Tonia's farm.
I was never that grown up as a child in fact I still have so much to learn from my sweet Matia. So today we said goodbye to our sweetest dearest goat friend Cocoa with much sadness in our hearts. But we know our sweet Tonia will take good care of you until we are together again. Lesson learned bloating in goats is VERY serious and needs immediate attention. I didn't know this but goats cant belch to get their gasses out, now I do and I will never lose a goat to bloating again! Cocoa made her last transfer to Tonia's ranch in the Sky.

Kitty adoption from Cousin Cari
Hansel and Poseidon are two very cute brother kittens that my cousin Cari had living at her house. My children spotted them as they took a walk to return a life vest that had been lost on the side of the road. Cari wasn't there but there were some adorable kittens that Treg and Tia couldn't stop thinking about. So as I was watching abunch of the cousins I told them to all go for a walk and see if Cari would let us adopt the kittens. Well we must say we all love these two. Poseidon can not stay clean to save his life he is constantly rolling around in anything to make him messy. But we love them both they were adopted on July 13th.

First Day of Fall Lessons
So yesterday we had our first day of fall lessons. I hope everyone had a great experience with their new classes and possibly new horses. If you were by chance lucky enough to be riding Maximus please be patient with him we are building his confidence with his new home and routine. This may take a little time. He is very well trained and well behaved we just have to adjust to his level. Yesterday was also tuition day if you forgot your tuition then please get it to me by today or there will be a late fee of $10.00 and you can just bring that next time with your full tuition. Also for next month I will have a big TUITION Envelope on the bulletin board please ask your rider to put it in the envelope. Also if you pay with cash please put that in an envelope with your riders name on it. I should have thought that through better but oh well live and learn right? I also had some students ask me about equestrian helmets. Those are the helmets I prefer for the riders. I don't require them but if you are interested in purchasing one I can purchase them in bulk for $30.00 they are just the simple black or white but good quality. If you are interested let me know by next week and if I have enough orders we will go for it.
So this is Cookie and Gretel-Ginger they are our 2 newest additions to Crazy Creek Ranch. Matia was able to buy Cookie who is a lionhead/lopear bunny from Analise who lives near Greenwood for $20. Matia earned the chance to buy Cookie by taking care of her dad so lovingly while his knee was hurt. Cookie is super sweet and loveable!
Gretel-Ginger was adopted by us from our sweet Hendershot family who found her in a park and nursed her back to health. They quickly discovered 2 of their family members are allergic to her and they were unable to keep her. Gretel-Ginger loves Cookie we often find them snuggled up in a corner. We have them both in a cage still to get Gretel accustomed to her new home without overwhelming her. We think she is about the same age as Hansel and Poseidon and she does like them although she seems very mellow and shy.

Fall Lessons starting this week - Lexi
This week we will be starting Fall lessons. Parents please note cowboy boots, jeans, helmet and water are your responsibilities. I do have a few used pairs of boots at the ranch for sale for $8.00 if you find a pair that fit your child then you are welcome to buy them. I will not be lending out helmets anymore since everyone's head is different and adjusting helmets take away from riding time. So please make sure they have these things before their first day. If they want to leave their helmets here then we do have a place to hang them. Otherwise make sure water, folders, helmets come every time. We are very excited again since I won't be part of the riding lessons please let me know of any concerns you have when they arise. I love parents filling me in on how things are going. Oh and remember tuition is due the first week of the month or there will be a $10 late fee.
BTW - this is Lexi who is my personal favorite chicken on the ranch. We raised her from a little chickie this spring and wow look how she has grown. Just the other day Terry came out of the mud room and I came out of the garage each on one side of her as she was by the steps. We walked up to her she squatted and laid a brand new light brown egg right there in front of us... I guess we scared the "Egg right out of her".
She is a Sussex Chicken and they have everything: they are great layers of tinted or light brown eggs--and they lay right through the coldest weather about 4 eggs/week. They are dual purpose birds, though: fat-bodied and not prone to flying when mature, so they are easily fenced. In England, they used to be THE standard table bird, before the modern Cornish Crosses came along. They forage well and are economical eaters that are friendly and easily handled. Their curious nature means they will often follow you around the yard if they think they can beg a treat from you. The "speckled" variety has plumage that gives them some camouflage from predators, too. Many tend to get more speckles after each successive molt, so they just get prettier with age. Seriously, what more could you ask for in a chicken?

Maximus
Meet Maximus our newest addition to Crazy Creek. This half Arabian half quarter horse is 23 but don't tell him because he really thinks he is 15. He does it all trail, jump, poles, barrels and he loves it. His best friend on the farm is Miss Holly Kay. He has great ground manners and is just like a extra size Sally personality and all. He will be replacing Kiwi since Kiwi is moving to her families home this month. I hope you all love Maximus (like on Tangled) as much as we do.
Quarab are known for their intelligent and spirited disposition. For centuries, Arabian horses lived in the desert in close association with humans. For shelter and protection from theft, prized war mares were sometimes kept in their owner's tent, close to children and everyday family life. Only horses with a naturally good disposition were allowed to reproduce, with the result that Arabians today have a good temperament. On the other hand, the Arabian is also classified as a "hot-blooded" breed, a category that includes other refined, spirited horses bred for speed. Like other hot-bloods, Arabians' sensitivity and intelligence enable quick learning and greater communication with their riders; however, their intelligence also allows them to learn bad habits as quickly as good ones, and they do not tolerate inept or abusive training practices. Most Arabians have a natural tendency to cooperate with humans, when treated badly, like any horse, they can become excessively nervous or anxious, but seldom become vicious unless seriously spoiled or subjected to extreme abuse. There you have it a little about our Quarab (Quarter-Arabian) Maximus!

My hopes are that everyone had a great time coming and showing their families how far they have come and what they can do these days.
Emma, Addie, Ella and Addison... I am so proud of each and everyone of you girls you did fabulous!

Show Quizes
To pass Level 1 each rider must get at least a score of 20 on all combined quizzes. I have listed the riders who are missing a quiz. If they feel like they would like to take the test before their current score goes on their final then please bring them 20-25 min early so they have time to take the test before the show starts. If they have taken the quiz I have listed have them bring the quiz so I can add their score to their current score. Thanks and hope you are all excited to see your children ride.

Maximus formerly known as Peanut
Meet Maximus adopted (Aug 16, 2013) he is Kiwi's replacement in lessons we purchased him from the same institute we adopted Holly from. Maximus (formerly known as Peanut) is an older registered gelding who has been
used as a lesson horse for beginning riders for the last eight years. He is a
Arab Quarter horse mix and has done a little of everything in his life. He is a
larger, well build horse, at 16 hands, and can carry a large adult. He is up to
date on all shots, worming, hoof, and teeth care. He is in very good health and
is easy to shoe, clip, bath, and load. He gets along well with other horses and
his ground manners are very good. He has given lessons in English and Western,
barrel racing, jumping, bareback riding, dressage, and much more. He loves the
trails and I have never had a problem with him on a trail ride, including,
crossing water, fighting with other horses, or anything else.

Crazy Creek Show Schedule and Details
With this being our first show I am hoping we scheduled enough time to stay on schedule. Please have your riders to the arena 15 minutes early to make sure their horses are saddled. Also you might want to bring chairs. We will be moving around from arena to arena but if you prefer to sit then bring a chair. Also my children are missing the lemonade stands they had on 700 N. so they are planning a "Concessions Stand" please don't feel obligated to purchase anything but I wanted to warn you just incase you have little ones. I sure hope everyone is looking forward to this show it is just something extra fun. If anyone doesn't feel like performing in the show they can schedule a makeup class with me instead. Your riders have all been working very hard all summer. Some horses have been more cooperative then others but all the riders have done FABULOUS and I am so proud of them.
If you have any further questions please let me know.

- Must be able to groom and saddle horse unassisted.
- Must direct bit and chin strap for bridle also do up throat latch.
- Must be able to mount horse unassisted.
- Must score 7/10 or higher in Showmanship (halter)
- Must score 7/10 or higher in Horsemanship course.
- Must score 10/15 or higher in Trail course.
- Must complete barrel pattern without DQ at a walk is fine.

I know this is a lot for most of these kids but they have come such a long way in the last 3 months I feel like they are ready to move to level 2. Remember if your child doesn't complete level 1 at this show they will have the opportunity to try again when they are ready. We allow students to all go at their own pace to create a fun and safe environment.
Welcome to Crazy Creek Ranch
Yahoo! I am so excited to be starting a blog about our Crazy Creek Ranch experiences. I hope you all find this just as entertaining as we do living on the ranch. This summer has been a super busy yet fun experience. As you know in June we started teaching riding lessons to a few kids (Annie, Daisy, Shaylee, Gracie, Adi, Emma, Tayla, Allee, Sadie, Tayler, Ella, Mylee, Braxton, Nathan, Natalie, Baylee, Jaysha, Alysa, and Lynsee) and those few kids have turned into 40 students by the end of the summer we had added (Addison W. Addison C. Emma, Jacie, Belle, Lexie, Kennedi, Jana, Maddie, Macie, Patrice, Gracie, Hollingsworth girls, Ulga's boys and Celia I am sure there were more). So things are a lot more busy then I had intended but I just can't hold back sharing this life with those who have a desire to be part of it. I have never had to advertise for riding lessons it has all been word of mouth. There is so much to be learned on the ranch about life. So here we go our crazy experiences at Crazy Creek Ranch.
